The Hellenic Competition Commission's Annual Report for the year 2020, presents the Commission's work and actions for an extremely demanding year marked by the onset of the pandemic.
From the continuation of the effort for the clearing of pending cases and the increasing the efficiency of the HCC, which had already started in 2019; the completion of investigations and sectoral studies and the start of new ones; the digital upgrade and organizational reorganization of the HCC; the establishment and participation in legislative committees; the launch of public consultations and teleconferences; as well as the adoption of a number of important pieces of legislation, the HCC's work for 2020 stands out for its pluralism and innovation despite the extremely difficult conditions and challenges at a human, organizational and technological level, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The results of the HCC’s actions for the year 2020 prove the enormous effort made by the administration and the staff of the HCC.
The HCC's 2020 Annual Report on the Year 2020 has as its main “subject” that of sustainable development. Professors Roman Inderst (Professor of Finance and Economics at Göethe University Frankfurt), Eftychios Sartzetakis (Professor of Environmental Economics at the University of Macedonia Thessaloniki) and Anastasios Xepapadeas (Professor of Economics at the Athens University of Economics and the University of Bologna) have contributed in the relevant Section of the Annual Report with their analysis on the topic of "Sustainable Development and Competition Law". These were the authors of the Technical Report on sustainability and competition, the first systematic work evaluating the effects on sustainable development in the context of competition law enforcement, work that has been referred to by a number of competition authorities and the OECD as an important initiative in the field with a global dimension.
